Establish a surplus plan while the opportunity and the capability exist. Do not count on future events to support God’s work. If you have money stored and God lays a need on you, give right them. It may even be necessary to disregard some tax advantages. Many people retain investments to take maximum advantage of the tax law. I don’t disagree with the “logic” of that; I’d rather have God as my partner in a venture than the government. 3. Obey God’s Principles. In formulating your long-range plans, pay specific attention to God’s principles: Honesty. Never allow yourself to be trapped into anything that is unethical, immoral or dishonest, no matter how inviting it seems. Proverbs 16:8 says, “Better is a little with righteousness than great income with injustice.” It is important that we observe honesty in all of our plans. There aren’t any small lies, there are just lies. There aren’t any small thefts, there are just thefts. Employee Welfare. Christian employers have an absolute responsibility to care for their employees. A part of your long-range planning in your business involves the welfare of your employees. If you expect a fair day’s work, pay a fair day’s wage. A part of company profits belongs not only to management, but also to the employees. God has a personal management plan in Scripture that will revolutionize a business. But too often Christian employers are more intent on making money than providing for the welfare of employees. First Timothy 5:18 says, “For the Scripture say, ‘You shall not muzzle the ox while he is threshing’ and ‘The laborer is worthy of this wages.’” Christian employers not only have additional authority, but additional responsibility as well. Concern for Others. Often opportunities will arise to take unfair advantage of others. You must precondition your attitude to avoid and temptation. “Do not rob the poor because he is poor, or crush the afflicted at the gate; for the Lord will plead their case, and take the life of those who rob them” (Proverbs 22:22-23).
